Black's Law Dictionary, 11th Edition, Bryan A. Garner. For nearly 130 years, Black & rsquo;s Law Dictionary has been the gold standard for the language of the law. The greatly expanded 11th edition, with new material on every page, is at once the most practical, comprehensive, scholarly, and authoritative law dictionary ever published. With clarity and rigor, it defines more than 55,000 law-related words and phrases, recording their historical and present-day nuances. This edition introduces 3,500 new terms, including accountability, anticipatory self-defense, cyber force, Islamic law, Jewish law, legal moralism, legal reasoning, moral equality, peacekeeping, remotely piloted warfare, right to rebel, and umbrella clause. More than 900 Latin maxims have been added, newly translated, and carefully indexed for this edition, making Black & rsquo;s Law Dictionary the most thorough and reliable source for these essential and often elusive items. Headwords are given their dates of earliest known use in English-language sources, giving dictionary users a greater sense of historical context. Black & rsquo;s Law Dictionary is the only legal dictionary to provide such data. The extensive bibliography lists the more than 1,000 classics of legal literature that are briefly quoted throughout the dictionary to amplify the user & rsquo;s understanding of legal terminology. Each of the more than 6,000 quotations locates a critical and otherwise hard-to-find explanation of the terms under discussion. Editor-in-Chief Bryan A. Garner, the world & rsquo;s leading legal lexicographer, has assembled an unmatched roster of academic and practicing contributors who have vetted every term for accuracy. Never has such a distinguished lineup of legal talent been arrayed in support of a legal reference work. If you & rsquo;re using an edition that was current when you were in law school, you & rsquo;re out of date. If you think a dictionary is useful mainly as a doorstop, you haven & rsquo;t browsed the pages of this 11th edition. Once you do, you & rsquo;ll find it hard to put down. Court Of Appeal Compendium - 2021
On 1st November 2021, the new Court of Appeal Rules 2021 ( & ldquo;the 2021 Rules & rdquo; or & ldquo;the Rules & rdquo;) came into force, repealing the Court of Appeal Rules 2016 ( & ldquo;the 2016 Rules & rdquo;) and bringing several notable changes to the procedural operations of Nigeria & rsquo;s penultimate appellate court.
With the COVID-19 pandemic still affecting the regular operation of many sectors, including the justice sector which faced notable delays, virtual proceedings are becoming common. In the 2021 Rules, notable changes have been made to reflect the new reality of virtual proceedings and innovative provisions prompting the expeditious disposal of appeals have been introduced as well. In the subsequent paragraphs, some of the notable changes introduced by the 2021 Rules are highlighted, alongside certain operational problems of the Rules which have already started cropping up.
Innovations Introduced by the 2021 Rules
Virtual Hearings: By virtue of Order 21 of the 2021 Rules, proceedings can now be conducted virtually. Court sittings are also defined to include both physical and virtual sittings of the court.
The issues highlighted in the previous segment are teething troubles, as may be expected in the early days of any new statute and it is hoped that with time, these troubles are worn away. It is also our hope that as the new Rules are put into use, the President of the Court of Appeal shall issue Practice Directions, where necessary, to resolve some of the issues that may arise. In the interim, the innovative provisions of the 2021 Rules must be commended, as they indicate that the Nigerian Appellate Court is keeping with the times in which we find ourselves.

Corporate Law Property Practice & Law In Practice By Akin Olawale - 2nd Ed 2016 - Paper Back
Law books are generally voluminous, filled with jurisprudential analysis and discussions of decided cases and scholarly opinions. In some instances, a legal practitioner may need to bury himself in the library for hours before picking out points from any piece on what he is researching. This is one of the beauties of law. It is important especially when one wishes to compare views and make serious argument in favour or against an issue. However, in practice, a more straight-to-the point text is often desired for legal practitioners and law students where rules, procedures and sample drafts can easily be obtained without the rigour of spending so much time to dig it out. This book is a synopsis of principles, cases, procedures, ethics, skills and law practice.
Part A simply presents Property and Conveyancing practices in Nigeria across various jurisdictions citing appropriately the Land Use Act, 1978, Registration of Titles Law, Lagos State 2015, Conveyancing Act, 1881 and 1882, and Property and Conveyancing Laws of states in the old Western Region of Nigeria 1959 and Lagos State Mortgage and Property Law 2010. The principles of law dealing with different property transactions are treated. The book shows how to draft instruments of conveyancing in respect of each transaction. Part B explores the provisions of Rules of Professional Conduct, 2007 on ethics of the legal profession. Its approach on legal skills is unique such that letter writing, counseling, interview, advocacy, law office management, drafting, ADR and so on are simply explained. Part C deals with all matters on Corporate Law Practice including simple-to-assimilate procedures under Companies and Allied Matters Act as well as sample drafts of company & rsquo;s resolutions, minutes of meeting, notices of meeting, corporate search report and up-to-date legal framework regulating corporate law practice in Nigeria.

Although I did not write any new chapter as I did in the second edition, such as Circumstantial Evidence and Islamic Procedural Law for Absent Parties, contained in chapters Seven and Eight respectively, I expanded on a number of the chapters therein such as Islamic Law of Evidence and Procedurals, Marriage and Inheritance. More recent, cases were cited to illustrate some principles of Islamic Law particularly in the distribution of estates.
