The game follows the same episodic format as other titles, such as , , , and . The story of the first four episodes revolves around a player-created character named Jesse and their friends, who must rise up as heroes and save the world from the destructive Wither Storm. The rest of the first season sees Jesse and their friends, now hailed as heroes, stumbling upon a powerful artifact that leads them to a new adventure, facing new and old foes along the way. In the second season, released from July to December 2017, Jesse, joined by new and old friends alike, faces the powerful Admin.
Both the first and second seasons are no longer available for download due to the closure of Telltale Games in late 2018
