- The excreters of the fishes over a long time in the water could cause germs
- If a fish with disease is introduced into the aquarium or fish bowl, It can infect the former fish. In this case the new fish can be quarantined - that is water treatment is added into a different water and the new fish is kept in it until it cures.
- Sometimes the cause of diseases or death is in the water itself as some water contain elements like ammonia etc. In this case water treatment is used in the water before fishes are introduced into it.
