Gas or electric
The two most popular types of heat gun are differentiated by how they are powered. Gas heat gun are less frequently used but do benefit from being cordless, while electric heat gun are the most popular option. Although they are more restrictive in that they have a cord, they are much safer and can be adapted with extension cords.
