Printer is one of the output devices of the computer, which is used to print the computer processing results on the relevant media. There are three indicators to measure the quality of a printer: printing resolution, printing speed and noise. There are many types of printers. There are two types of printers: impact printer and non impact printer. According to the printing character structure, it can be divided into full shape printer and dot matrix character printer. The string printer and the line printer are divided according to the way that a line of words is formed on the paper. According to the adopted technology, it can be divided into column, spherical, ink-jet, thermal, laser, electrostatic, magnetic, LED and other printers.
The printer was co invented by John Walter and Dave Donald. A device that prints the results of computer operations or intermediate results on paper in a specified format in numbers, letters, symbols and graphics that can be recognized by human beings. The printer is developing in the direction of light, thin, short, small, low power consumption, high speed and intelligence.
With the rapid development of the Internet, some people predict that the paperless era is coming, and the end of printers has arrived. However, the global paper consumption is doubling every year, and the sales of printers are increasing at an average rate of nearly 8%. All these indicate that the printer will not disappear, but will develop faster and faster, and the application field will be wider and wider.
1、 Technology
The basic working principle of the ink-jet printer is to first generate small ink droplets, and then use the ink-jet head to guide the small ink droplets to the set position. The smaller the ink droplets, the clearer the printed image. The basic principle looks simple, but the operation is not that simple. Just as the principle of calculus is not complicated, what is complicated is how to apply it.
Here are some historic technological breakthroughs in ink-jet printers.

In 2003, HP Photosmart 7960, the world's first digital photo printer with eight color ink technology, came out
In the spring of 2005, the world's first nine color photo printer HP Photosmart 8758 was born
The ink-jet printing technology was proposed as early as 1960, but the first commercial ink-jet printer was born at IBM 16 years later. The original BM4640 was developed by Hertz, a professor at the Lutheran Institute of Industrial Technology in Sweden, Europe, and his colleagues. It is called continuous ink-jet technology. The so-called continuous ink-jet is to generate ink droplets in a continuous way, regardless of the print or non print, and then recycle or disperse the non print ink droplets. However, this technology almost uses drops to print ink dots on the paper. The effect is imaginable, so it has no practical value in reality.
In 1976, piezoelectric ink dot control technology came out
In the same year as IBM4640, Zoltan, Kyser and Sear, three pioneer researchers of Siemens Technology, successfully developed piezoelectric ink dot control technology (the predecessor of EPSON technology) in the same year, and successfully applied it to Seimens Pt-80. This printer was mass produced and sold in 1978, becoming the first inkjet printer with commercial value in the world. In 1979, Bubble Jet Bubble ink-Jet technology was introduced
Japanese Canon researchers have successfully developed the Bubble Jet bubble inkjet technology. This technology uses a heating component to instantly heat the ink in the nozzle to generate bubbles to form pressure, so that the ink can be ejected from the nozzle, and then uses the physical properties of the ink itself to cool the hot spot to eliminate the bubbles, so as to achieve the dual purpose of controlling the in and out size of ink dots. Here is a story from the company. One day in July 1977, Ichiro Endo of the 22nd Research Laboratory of Canon Product Technology Research Institute in Muhei District, Tokyo, accidentally put a heated soldering iron on the attachment of the injection needle while conducting experiments in the laboratory, and ink quickly flew out of the injection needle. Inspired by this, bubble ink-jet technology was invented 2 years later.
At the same time, HP has also invented the same essential technology. HP and Canon both claimed that their researchers were the first to invent the inkjet printing technology, so as to establish their position in the inkjet printing field. However, the concept of "bubble" has been stolen by Canon, so HP has to name it Thermal Ink Jet.
In 1991, the first color inkjet printer and large format printer appeared
HP DeskJet 500C is the first color inkjet printer in the world. In June 1994, HP DeskJet 525Q, a locally modified product, appeared in China. HP DesignJet is the first monochrome large format inkjet printer in the world launched by HP, which applies its thermal inkjet printing technology to large format printers for the first time. The emergence of color inkjet printers and large format printing is the most important milestone in the history of inkjet printers.
In 1994, micro piezoelectric printing technology came out
As early as the 1970s, Epson began to research piezoelectric technology. After nearly 20 years, he finally successfully applied micro piezoelectric printing technology to the printer field and realized productization. The basic principle of micro voltage technology is to place many tiny piezoelectric ceramics near the print head nozzle of the ink-jet printer, and use the principle that the ink will deform under the action of voltage to make the ink in the nozzle eject and form a pattern on the surface of the output medium.
Since then, Epson's intelligent ink drop transformation technology, natural color restoration technology, ultra fine ink drop technology, etc; Canon's professional photo optimization technology, quadruple color control technology, etc; HP's Furitou layered technology, intelligent color enhancement technology, etc. All these have further improved the technical content of inkjet printers.
