How can I tell if my baby has colic?
Your baby may have colic if they cry continuously for no specific reason and you are unable to comfort them. Colic most commonly occurs in the late afternoon and early evening. Your baby will cry out in pain and may draw their knees up to their chest and go red in the face. Their tummy may be swollen or bloated as they have swallowed a lot of air, and they may pass wind more than usual. Symptoms NOT associated with colic are diarrhoea, vomiting or a raised temperature (over 38 C). If your baby suffers from any of these or if you are uncertain whether your baby is suffering from colic you should consult your health professional, midwife or family doctor.
How to give Infacol
Infacol is simple to give even when your baby is crying. The normal dose is one full dropper (0.5ml) given before each feed for several days, but don't worry if you forget one or more doses. Step 1: Shake the bottle well Step 2: Draw up one dropper full by squeezing the bulb twice, wiping any excess Infacol off the outside of the dropper back into the bottle. Step 3: To administer the dose squeeze the bulb and release the liquid onto the back of your baby's tongue. Infacol has a progressive effect, which means that is should be given to your baby for several days to achieve the best results. If your baby's colic has not improved after three or four days you can increase the dosage to two droppers full (1ml). If symptoms worsen or change unexpectedly or there are any side affects, consult your healthcare professional.
