High pressure hoses are typically flexible in nature and expand significantly when matter passes through. The hose will become immovable and taut when the maximum pressure capacity is reached. When using a high pressure hose, it is very important to pay close attention to the pressure gauge to ensure that the numbers go no higher than recommended. If too much pressure is applied, the hose may burst and shrapnel may be catapulted in all directions. This can lead to serious injury for operators or bystanders if pieces of debris make contact with any unprotected parts of the body.For this reason, protective gear should be worn at all times while operating any kind of device which uses a high pressure hose. This may include safety goggles, gloves, helmets, and other protective layers to prevent injury should the hose burst unexpectedly. The best measure of protection of course, is to follow all manufacturer instructions and regulations. Additionally, there are devices that can be added onto certain machinery that use a high pressure hose. Blow-out guards, for instance, act as shields over the hose to prevent debris from escaping if the hose bursts.
