He decided to bring Chevrolet to frontline with all-powerful LS6 build, and in the process he created an icon. Easily one of the most well known vehicles to vintage racing fans, this 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle was piloted by Allen, and the already established Ralph Truppi and Tommy Kling. The trio sprinted their way to an unbeaten season in 1970, setting a national record at that time of 11.33 seconds, clocking in a half second faster than the Mopars across the field.

By any calculation, 1966 was a momentous year for the GTO. The original muscle car had come into its own in persona and popularity. It even became a separate series featuring the hardtop, pillared sports coupe and convertible. The GTO's all-new body incorporated Coke-bottle side styling and a recessed backlight, with sail panels that provided a semi-fastback appearance. Graduating from the tough, boxy street brawler look of 1965, the '66 was refined with integrated shapes. Its front bumper became an integral part of the nose, closely following the curves of the newly sculpted split grilles and headlamp bezels. Parking lamps were set into the grilles & agrave; la the 1963 and 1964 Grand Prix's, and the grilles were blacked out--a muscle car styling cue that Pontiac initiated on the GTO in 1964 and would be used by much of its competition going forward. This lowered 66' GTO Restomod includes a killer custom paint job, with black street fighter wheels and tires. This is something you do not miss cruising on your downtown strip!

In 1968 six special paint colors appeared on Shelbys. They were known by their special "WT" identification code number. The total production number of these special WT paint cars was just 159 across all six paint variations. These cars were sold as part of Ford's "Summer Sales Promotion". The WT cars were offered on both the GT500KR and GT350 models and were only available with black or saddle interiors. Along the way it has become arguably the most famous drag-racing Chevelle ever, capturing the SS/DA class record in 1972 and setting an elapsed time of 10:75 at 123 MPH on the way to winning Top Eliminator 14 of 16 events at Bradenton Dragway in Florida in 1976.

"Akron" Arlen Vanke was a working-man's drag racer. Competing--and winning--in the Stock, Super Stock and Pro Stock classes, he set records with Pontiacs and, later, Plymouths, earning multiple Stock Eliminator titles with both marques.
