No Easy Harvest is many stories in one, indeed many books in one at the same time. It is a personal life story with many paradoxes the paradox of the small boy who was sent to the Qua The Mission Primary School, Idah, in 1949 by his mother with the sole purpose of acquiring the capacity to read the Holy Bible and possibly become a primary school teacher or an evangelist, to a young man who went on to acquire degrees from the University of Ibadan ( BSc ( Econ.), 1967 ) , the University of Chicago (MA Econ , 1960 ) and Michigan State University, East Lansing (PhD Agric Econ , 1979 ), culminating in an academic career, the paradox of an academic with primary interest in research , who shunned tempting administrative responsibilities, to one on whom was thrust, as an unintended consequence and against his wish, appointments as Pioneer Vice Chancellor , University of Agriculture , Makurdi (UAM ), Nigeria ( 1988-96 ), the invitation and persuasion to serve as Vice Chancellor, Kogi State University ( KSU ), Anyigba ( 2008-08 ), to his appointment as Deputy Director General, International Service for National Agricultural Research ( ISNAR ), The Hague, The Netherlands, 1998. The book provides details on the programme content of the author's leadership at the Federal Agricultural Coordinating Unit, UAM, the National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA), and, at the international level, ISNAR This book does the unusual in providing details of the author's strategies and actual results from over 35 years of investing in the Nigerian stock market to serve as inspiration to others, sharing his philosophy of long - term investment. The lesson: the academic, even in a developing country, can attain clean financial security to complement a successful academic career, following certain principles and strategies contained in the book. On formal giving back to society, it details the author's founding and funding of two foundations: the Igala Education Foundation (2001) and the F.S. Idachaba Foundation for Research and Scholarship (IFRES) (2008). No Easy Harvest concludes with the honours and awards that have come the author's way , or special highlight are the award of the DSc (Honoris Causa) by the University of Agriculture, Abeokuta ( 2004 ), rated at that time by the National Universities Commission (NUC ) as the best university in Nigeria, and the crowning glory of it all, the author's conferment with the Nigerian National Order of Merit (NNOM ) Award , the highest award that Nigeria confers on its citizen for academic excellence and outstanding intellectual achievement, and the presentation to the author of the certificate, medal and cash by President Goodluck Jonathan at the Presidential Villa , State House, Abuja , on December 1 , 2011.
